Some TP-LINK products sold in Malaysia come with 1-for-1 exchange during the warranty period. For example, the TL-PA211 Powerline Adapter comes with 2 Year warranty with 1-for-1 exchange (see attached).
There is no visible fine print on the label or packaging indicated that the 1-for-1 exchange is valid only at the TP-LINK service centre in KL. In an email response following my enquiry TP-LINK indicated that the 1-for-1 exchange is not applicable in any other locations in Malaysia, except in the KL Service Centre. Just as frustratingly, I could not find any document containing terms and conditions of the warranty.
Today, many products sport similar features and capability. Consumers often make their purchase decision based on additional product differentiators. The promise of 1-for-1 exchange could be one differentiator that influence buyers' purchase decision from one brand to the other. TP-LINK's advertising of 1-for-1 exchange without furnishing the limitation of the policy constitutes misleading marketing propaganda. Under the Malaysia Consumer Protection Act 1999 (CPA), suppliers and manufacturers are prohibited to use misleading and deceptive conduct, false misrepresentation and unfair claims in selling products and services. In that respect, TP-LINK might have breached the CPA.
BE WARNED.
